Diet plays a major role in maintaining good health. 'We become what we Eat’; this age-old saying is very true. Our body is made from the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe and from the impressions that our senses perceive from the external world i.e. from every little bit that we ingest in the material form and through our perceptions. Here, in this section, we are largely discussing about food and our food habits. What food we choose to eat affects our health and well-being in a profound way. It just doesn’t provide wholesome nourishment to our bodies but also affects our outward appearance, our mental health and in fact has far-reaching influence on our aging as well. Adopting a good diet helps us to gain maximum nutrition from the food we eat and aids in a harmonious functioning of all the vital systems of our body. Thus we can conclude that the raw material needed by the body for its core roles of growth, development and function comes from what we eat.

The food we eat provides us with:

  • Energy required for all activities
  • Substances that help in building, growth and repair of tissues
  • Chemicals to regulate various processes happening within the body

A balanced diet is the one which nourishes our body with essential nutrients needed to perform its functions duly and optimally. It ideally comprises of necessary quantities of nutrients derived from Macronutrients (Carbohydrates, Proteins & Fats) and Micronutrients (Vitamins & Minerals), each of which have specific roles to play in maintaining various body functions. The macronutrients primarily provide energy, and build & repair body tissues while the micronutrients perform a crucial task of maintaining our metabolism & tissue function and several other processes that take place in our bodies.

A diet that lacks in nutrients, over a period of time, can lead to several health issues varying from mere lack of enthusiasm and energy, to growth and development problems or even more grave concerns related to the functioning of vital organs of our body. Studies have shown that 'obesity' and ‘nutrient-starved’ bodies are the precursors of several chronic diseases such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Thyroid disorders, PCOD and many more. A balanced diet helps in meeting with the body’s nutritional demands and in turn, having a beneficial effect not only in preventing several diseases but also in curing many ailments.

We believe that a general diet plan does not work for everyone and hence at 'Wellness Aspects', we advise a customized individualistic diet to every patient after considering their physical constitution, activity levels, disease tendencies, work profile, likes-dislikes etc.
